Wash bays serve fleets, dealerships, equipment yards, and car wash operations. They combine a canopy or building with a sloped slab, trench drains, water supply, and a way to treat wash water before it leaves the site. Getting the drainage right is the core of the design.
Florida engineering concerns
Wash water carries oil, grease, soap, and sediment, so it generally cannot go into the storm system. Most wash bays route it through an oil-water separator or sand trap to the sanitary sewer under the local utility's rules, or into a recycling system. Rain falling on the bay has to be kept apart from wash water, which is one reason many wash bays are covered. Covered or open, the structure must meet Florida wind requirements, and site drainage may involve water management district review.
How Grey Load helps
We coordinate structural design for the canopy or building, the slab and trench drain layout, plumbing for water supply and pretreatment, and site drainage. We work with equipment suppliers on material and product requirements. Every project starts with a free consultation.
