Screen enclosures are part of daily life in Florida, covering pools, patios, and lanais. They are also structures in their own right, with aluminum frames, screen panels, and connections to the house and to the slab or footings. Each one needs engineering matched to its size, shape, and location, whether it is a new enclosure or a replacement after storm damage.
Florida engineering concerns
Wind is the main design load. Each enclosure is engineered for the design wind speed and exposure at its site, which sets frame member sizes, spacing, and connections. Screen density and roof style change how much wind the structure catches. The attachment to the house fascia or wall has to be checked, along with the slab or footings the frame bears on. If the enclosure serves as the pool barrier, its doors may also need self-closing, self-latching hardware under Florida's pool safety rules.
How Grey Load helps
We work with enclosure contractors and owners on project-specific drawing packages for new and replacement enclosures. The required professional review and document issuance are identified for each project. If an existing enclosure went up without a permit, after-the-fact support can review the records and define the documentation it needs. Every project starts with a free consultation.
